For some of us being a Real Estate Agent and a REALTOR® is the same thing, a person who can help me buying, selling or renting properties, and for myself it was too, but I had to find out the true about it by learning it myself, that is why I am writing this blog, let's make it easier and find out starting with the definitions...

Real Estate Agent: A licensed professional who represents buyers or sellers in real estate transactions.

REALTOR®: Is a federally registered collective membership mark which identifies a real estate professional who is member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics.

There are a lot of similarities between these two concepts but the biggest difference comes to certifications for each. When it comes to our interest in buying, selling or renting real estate, it is not only important to find a professional to help, but it is also important to find the best professional to do it.

                               REALTOR®                                                                Real Estate agents

All REALTORS® are Real Estate Agents

Not al Real Estate agents are REALTORS®

Are Members of the National Association of REALTORS®

Are not Members of the National Association of REALTORS®

Are required to pass the NAR code of Ethics course and exam

Are not required to pass the NAR code of Ethics course and exam

The NAR code of Ethics is what sets up the differences, although the study of ethical principles is included on many  state education courses, REALTORS® are subject to follow and practice the standards of the association.

Statistically a REALTOR is better educated and skilled about the business than a Real Estate Agent. Experience and education translate into Success.

Whether you hire a REALTOR or a real estate agent is really up to you, both are trained to do the job, but there might be advantage of hiring one over the other, do your homework, and choose the one that fits your situation.
